Acrylic Restoration
Cape Canaveral 1st Order lens

Cape Canaveral Lens Restoration
This 1st Order lens was removed from the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse due to vibration damage. Two of the glass bullseye assemblies shook loose from rocket launches and shattered on the lantern room floor. It is now on exhibit at the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse, FL. The bulleye assembly show on the right is one of the acrylic replacements. The bulleye to the left is the original glass.

1st Order Replica

This 1st Order bullseye is the replica made for the Cape Canaveral lens pictured above. It was cast in polyethelyne molds. Pigment was added to match the greenish color apparent in classic Fresnel lenses. There are five individual pieces that make up the lens. After the segments are removed from the molds, they are sanded and polished to a mirror finish, then glued together to complete the assembly.

Macbeth Evans Flash Panel

Macbeth Evans
This flash panel on exhibit at the Pt. Pinos Lighthouse, CA, is from a Macbeth-Evans 4th Order lens. Macbeth-Evans was the only American manufacturer of Fresnel lenses, supplying only 4th, 5th and 6th Order lenses. The bullseye lens assembly was missing and was replaced with an acrylic replica.

Macbeth Evans
This 4th Order bullseye is the replica made for the Macbeth-Evans lens pictured above. It was machined from acrylic plate. Macbeth-Evans used flint glass around the turn of the 20th century. Flint glass contains lead and is nearly colorless, therefore no pigment was required.
